Adairsville may be a small town but that doesn’t mean it lacks an impressive history. The city can trace its history back to the Civil War era and there are a variety of museums and historic sites that will transport visitors and residents alike into the past.

Railroad history is closely tied to Adairsville’s own story. In fact, during the Civil War the famous steam locomotive The General sped through the town as it was pursued from Atlanta. It’s a locomotive chase that would be later immortalized by Buster Keaton in his film The General.

Adairsville is also well know for Barnsley Gardens, a world famous golf resort. Located Southwest of the city center Barnsley Gardens was originally the home of Sir Godfrey Barnsley of Derbyshire, England. He built the home in the 1840s for his wife Julia. Unfortunately she died before the home could be completed. It is said that her ghost still walks the grounds, making Barnsley Gardens one of the most famous haunts in Georgia.
